Medical Courses

Our courses cover a wide variety of proficiency and knowledge, from learning the basic skills, through to expedition medicine.
  • Level 1 — Basic First Aid. (Appointed Persons) A one day introduction to First Aid covers the basics of patient assessment and emergency procedures. No previous experience is required.
  • Level 2 — Emergency First Aid. A two day introduction to First Aid with applications in the workplace / outdoors. Recognised by most National Governing Bodies of Sports (e.g. MLTE, BCU & RYA). The course includes environmental considerations, common illnesses and basic treatments. No previous experience is required.
  • Level 3 — First Aid at Work. This four-day course is suitable for those requiring full Health and Safety Executive/Authority first aid training for the workplace and covers the appropriate syllabus for first aiders at work. This course trains the first aider to manage an incident until professional medical care arrives. Covering all the topics outlined for Level 2, the subjects are explored in more depth, with an emphasis on gaining a good understanding of the fundamental principles. This course also covers the legal aspects of first aid as applied to the workplace.
  • Level 4 — Remote First Aid. This two-day course is designed for those playing or working in remote areas and builds on previous training. In order to provide tailored content, participants choose to specialise in either Rescue or Expedition streams. In order to attend a Level 4 course, participants are required to have completed a Remote Emergency Care Level 2 course (or equivalent) within the last two years.
  • Level 5 — Wilderness. This two-day training complements the Level 4 course to provide the participant with comprehensive wilderness medical care skills. Training includes the use of an on-call doctor, reduction of dislocated shoulders, ankle assessment, advanced incident management and evacuation management. Again, training is tailored into Rescue or Expedition streams. In order to attend Level 5 training, participants are required to have completed the appropriate Level 4 stream within the last two years.
  • Level 6 — Trainer. This 4-day course is for aspirant wilderness first aid trainers, and is required for those wishing to qualify as a Remote Emergency Care trainer. During the course, diverse subjects are covered, from training techniques, to educational psychology, lesson planning and effective delivery. In order to attend this course, participants are required to have previously attended a Remote Emergency Care Level 4 course, to have a strong interest in the outdoors, and to have had an application form accepted.

We also run courses for Medical Gases and Defibrillator use, so please contact our offices if you require any further information about these courses.
